Replacing missing teeth as soon as possible is important for optimal oral care and a radiant smile.
Dental implants are usually a preferred treatment option for missing teeth as they are fixed in place (unlike dentures which are removable) and do not damage or rely on adjacent teeth (unlike bridges which need support from teeth either side of the gap)
Our Implant dentist will be able to advise you if a dental implant is right for you. They will take X-rays of your mouth to establish the integrity and health of your jawbone – a key factor to the success of tooth implants.
A titanium post is first permanently fixed to your bone at the site of the missing tooth, this will essentially act as the ‘root’ of your tooth, for maximum strength, stability and longevity. It is important to allow time for the implant to integrate with your bone. You will be provided with a temporary tooth whilst the area is healing.
Several months later, after your implant has healed, your dentist will then attach a dental crown to the post. This is custom-made to replicate the missing tooth in size, shape and colour, also taking into account your natural teeth and your smile.
With regular brushing and oral care, dental implants are a long-lasting solution to replace missing teeth. We would recommend professional cleaning with a hygienist every 4 months to ensure the gum health around your implant is maintained.
It is important that you are comfortable throughout any of your treatment and we will always go at a pace to suit your needs. You should not feel any pain during your implant treatment, as your dentist will administer a local anaesthetic.
At Bassett Dental Practice, you may be able to undergo the procedure under sedation if you are particularly anxious about your treatment.
Following the procedure, you may feel some discomfort and experience swelling or sensitivity around the implant area for a few days.
